Is Minecraft Dungeons II different from Minecraft Dungeons?

Yes. Minecraft’s official FAQ says the sequel expands the original game’s weapons, enemies, and features into an all-new but familiar experience. It also says you do not need to play the first game to play the sequel.

What gameplay differences are confirmed?

Xbox Wire’s official hands-on report identifies these changes:

AreaMinecraft Dungeons II change described by Xbox Wire
World structureA fixed, interconnected world with dungeons
MovementA new ability to jump
ArmorFour armor slots for deeper customization
TalismansThree new passive-bonus slots
BuildcraftMore gear expression without fixed classes

Minecraft also says the sequel has new missions, new enemies, and all-new areas to fight through.

What remains familiar?

The official positioning remains action-RPG dungeon crawling in the Minecraft universe, with loot-driven gear and cooperative play. The sequel still lets players shape a hero through equipment rather than a traditional locked class.

What should not be treated as a confirmed difference yet?

Do not assume that every original-game system returns unchanged, or that an unrevealed system is absent. Detailed comparisons of enchantments, loot tiers, endgame, mission design, and platform performance require release-version evidence.
